This dissertation is a personal exploration of the real struggles of the researcher and what they and other LGBTQIA+ people face. Moreover, it looks at how the media portrays them through film and other visual mediums. It explores the visual portrayal of these characters and acts as a way to improve upon the representation of non-binary characters in films and television. The visual project is centered around a non-binary character navigating their own identity, use of pronouns, clothing, self-acceptance, and ultimately takes a look at the generalized feeling of confusion and loneliness that is commonplace in a non-binary person’s life.
