Michaela Psaila

‘Caetera Desunt

‘Caetera Desunt Series of 20 ceramic sculptures

Michaela Psaila’s current main interest is the depiction of women, in particular the iconography, stories and controversial history of the Goddesses Venus and Aphrodite. The aspiring artist hopes to question traditional beauty standards and expectations of femininity that have long influenced women’s experiences and connections with their bodies through her current collection of ceramic sculptures based on goddess imagery. By abstracting the body, she investigates the female body in a more universal and symbolic rather than representational way. Her goal in deconstructing and re-imagining the female body in abstracted shapes is to shatter restricting beauty conventions and create a space where women may feel liberated to enjoy their bodies rather than submit to artificial and damaging beauty standards.
