The Awakening

This dissertation study focuses on expressing a thriller narrative with the formative elements of film like mise- en-scène, cinematography, sound, and editing but the exclusion of character dialogue. The actor’s facial expressions, body language, and actions are mixed with editing, music, and scenery to craft the storyline of the short film. This project aims to show that character dialogue doesn’t always have to be the main story driver and is not necessarily needed to understand a short film. A story can be understood with the visuals that the audience is experiencing.
