After decades of the Steadicam being the leading stabilizing system in the industry, a new piece of technology has emerged in the market: the Gimbal. Thisdissertation aims to determine whether the Gimbal will be capable of replacing the Steadicam, considering the continuous mechanical advancements. Unlike the Steadicam, which has remained largely unchanged in design and size for the past decade with minor updates throughout the years on the arm and comfort, the Gimbal offers new possibilities. This dissertation also shows how the Gimbal can perform more creative shots on a budget and in a smaller form factor which can hold cinema cameras and even DSLR’s.
